Snug but Not Too Tight

A proper fit of football boots significantly enhances children's performance on the field. Typically, these boots are true to size, so ensure they are both comfortable and snug. The right fit directly impacts control, running, passing, and shooting abilities.

Measure Feet with Football Socks On

Provide children with the comfort they need to excel in their play. Measure their feet in the evening, with them wearing their football socks; these socks are typically thicker, so you might consider going up half a size if necessary.

Consider Playing Surface

The primary reasons for boot returns often include inadequate traction or an unsuitable sole for the playing surface. To prevent such issues, it's crucial to carefully assess the type of pitch you'll be playing on. We recommend visiting our 'Pitch Type' page, which will assist you in selecting the most appropriate boots for your needs.

Different Types of Boot

Three Styles

There are 3 main styles of boot available. The traditional boot (no sock), the low sock boot (sock below the ankle) and the high sock boot (sock above the ankle).

Traditional Boot vs Sock Boot

Traditional boots. sit just below the ankle for maximum freedom of movement. Sock fit boots sit higher up the ankle and are designed for a more locked-in feel. They’re great for stability and to strike the ball clean.

Laceless Boots

Laceless boots offer the advantage of not requiring constant lace adjustments during a match, saving you from the hassle of retying your child's laces. It's crucial, however, to ensure a snug fit when purchasing them to prevent any loosening during game time.

Different Types of Sole

Selecting the right sole (stud) for your kids' boots can often be the most challenging aspect, as each playing surface has its own regulations regarding the permissible stud types. It doesn't help that major boot manufacturers can occasionally make the process confusing by offering filter options that might lead you to the wrong stud type for your desired surface. To simplify matters, we've put together a handy guide below to provide you with information on the most commonly used stud types.

Rubber or Plastic Studs

Rubber or plastic rounded studs are an excellent choice because they are versatile and suitable for various outdoor pitch types. However, it's recommended to minimise walking on concrete surfaces while wearing these studs, as concrete can cause gradual wear and tear on the studs.

Mixed - Round/Bladed

Opting for a combination of rounded and blade studs is a solid choice, but we recommend adhering to an 80:20 ratio, favoring rounded studs over blade studs. This ratio is advisable because certain artificial pitches have restrictions that prohibit boots with predominantly bladed studs.

Blade Studs

Bladed studs are a popular choice among many boot manufacturers; however, it's important to note that they are not permitted on all types of artificial pitches. These studs are primarily designed for use on grass pitches.

They should last a season—or longer if they’re looked after. Of course, if your kid outgrows them sooner, they’ll need to be replaced. They might also need replacing if they show wear and tear. Look out for separation of the outer layers, worn-out soles or studs, or holes in the ankle area. Hours played make a huge difference, but to help boots last, have your kids change out of their boots as soon as they leave the playing surface.
